IN THE FIELD: Really Makes You Wonder

Most signs are posted for a good reason…directions, safety, awareness, rules and regulations. And then there are signs that just don’t make sense.

Here is a perfect example. This sign is posted at an elementary school playground. It is informative, as signs typically are, yet it’s a bit off-kilter.

I understand why the school officials would not want children, or adults for that matter, on the basketball court with skateboards, bicycles, scooters, and rollerblades. But what I can’t figure out is why ball playing is not allowed on a BASKETBALL COURT.

Good observation, and a strong statement,David. Remember that song, years ago, “Signs, signs, everywhere is signs ….breaking my mind, Do this, don’t do that, everywhere is signs.”

Honestly that song was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this! I have to laugh at the absurdity of this one though!

  2. July 26, 2013 at 10:36 am

Ummmmmmmmm I’m confused! LOL And I thought about that song too.

    • July 26, 2013 at 11:58 am

Your confused?….how about the kids? I forgot to look and see if the gate was locked..that would have been just to much!

  3. July 27, 2013 at 6:02 am

Perhaps they mean “No ball playing for stragers”?

    • July 27, 2013 at 1:53 pm

Maybe so Cornel…for school children only during school hours.

  4. July 27, 2013 at 9:41 am

Seems a bit over the top! As Cornel A. says, perhaps it’s a warning for strangers.

    • July 27, 2013 at 1:55 pm

Perhaps so….I can see the school and part of the basketball court from where I live and never see anyone playing there. Guess the sign is doing it’s job lol.

    It’s a strange world…

  6. July 27, 2013 at 8:04 pm

Yes, that sure is confusing! Why build it if it can’t be used.

    • July 28, 2013 at 9:45 am

It sure is…I’m not sure whether to laugh or just shrug the shoulders in confusion.

  7. July 28, 2013 at 12:56 pm

Oh the wonders of the world. And here we thought we had a little more freedom at a playground. Instead, this basketball court is for an imaginary game of Horse.

    • July 28, 2013 at 3:52 pm

That is just too funny!!! Big smile. Thanks for stopping by!!!

Seems like the kind of sigh only a ‘high-ranking official’ might approve of for a playground. Probably couldn’t remember what such a place was for. Lol! Thanks for the head-scratcher. 🙂

    • July 29, 2013 at 10:35 am

Great comment Steve…and that’s exactly what I was thinking. In fact…we live next to a park with paved paths and the same signs are posted there as well. Funny thing is, everyone partakes in all those activities. Must have been some grumpy old man from the township that posted these!

But you’ve got to think of Health and Safety! 🙂 What happens if a child hurts himself? Totally ridiculous.

  10. August 1, 2013 at 9:33 am

Isn’t it though? I literally laughed out load when I read this. I can’t take this politically correctness everyone has gone soft over here any more. Arrrrrgggghhhhh

There HAS to be a blog somewhere for “Stupid Signs,” and this would be perfect. They forgot to add, “No Breathing.”

    • August 2, 2013 at 2:09 pm

I couldn’t agree more! I think this will be my new quest…stupid signs.

  12. August 3, 2013 at 11:15 am

This is brilliant 🙂 I’ll have to show this to Charlie, he loves signs like this and has a nice collection himself 🙂

    • August 4, 2013 at 1:27 pm

Isn’t funny and not make any sense at the same time?! I should start a collection myself…I would love to see some of Charlie’s goofy funny signs!
