IN THE FIELD: Does Your Dog Have A License?
IN THE FIELD: 1940’s Style
While stopped at a traffic light at a busy intersection, I noticed a vintage pick-up truck parked across the street, which had been converted into a street rod.
When the light changed, I crossed the road and parked next to the green and chrome beauty. I only had a few minutes to spare, so I was limited to only a couple of photos. As luck would have it, the surroundings didn’t make for a pleasing background. So rather than take overall photos of the vehicle, I made do and shot a couple of close-ups instead.
HOW TO: Speedy Abstracts
Last weekend we were out for a drive in the countryside on a beautiful Autumn afternoon. My wife was driving and I decided to get creative with my camera as we whizzed through the woods.
I set up the lens with a mid range aperture and the camera with a slow shutter speed. In this case it was f8 and 1/25th of a second. As we drove through the woods I pointed the camera out the passenger window towards the scenery that was zipping by. I was attempting to capture the various colors of leaves as they began to change colors, but in an abstract way.
Photography from a moving car, whether it is daytime or nighttime, offers endless possibilities for creativity.

IN THE FIELD: Sweets
I’m not a big fan of candy anymore, except for a good piece of chocolate now and again. But while in the checkout line at the grocery store the other day, I couldn’t help noticing the vintage-styled packaging of this brand of liquorice. There were several of these bags hanging amongst the other brightly-colored contemporary wrappers of candies and sweets.
Then I noticed the wording “soft eating” and wondered…what other kind is there? I had to get a photo.
Folks were curious, rather than annoyed at me for taking photos of the candy aisle while they were in line to pay for their goods. Probably because I mentioned the wording on the package. A man standing behind me said he had never noticed that before, but the candy was some of the best he has ever tasted.

IN THE FIELD: 1950’s Style
Last weekend I was in another of my favorite haunts…a local hardware store. While I was in line to pay for my merchandise, I just happened to look out the storefront windows. There in the parking lot was a pristine car from the 1950‘s. Turns out, it was 1955 Buick Special. As you can well imagine, I had to get a few photos of this classic vehicle.
I found the owner and chatted with him for a few minutes about the car before asking him if I could get a few photos. He agreed and was quite flattered I wanted to photograph his car.
We walked over to my Jeep so I could grab my camera, and we then headed over to his car. He casually mentioned the Buick was recently restored. In fact it was restored from the chassis up to the roof following the original specifications. It sure was a beauty.
A few days later I sent him a few sample photos via e-mail. As soon as our schedules permit, we will meet at a more suitable location and I will conduct a proper photo shoot of his pride and joy.
IN THE FIELD: Another Glimpse Of Summer
I find it rather inspiring how some folks can turn a tiny space into an inviting garden.
I shot this photo in the first week of September when the summer season was winding down.

IN THE FIELD: First Flash Of Fall
Autumn is here! The days are getting shorter and more temperate…the nights are getting longer and cooler…and the Chrysanthemums are everywhere.
