IN THE FIELD: Gardener’s Retreat

Our next door neighbors have a love of gardening. So much so, at one time they owned a small farm where every year they grew six acres of flowers for cutting. Folks would come from far and wide to walk the fields and cut bouquets of flowers. About ten years ago our neighbors retired from the farm and downsized to a smaller home. They continue to cultivate and nurture their plantings to beautify their corner of our community.

The selection of plants surrounding their home includes rhododendrons, azaleas, lilies, iris’s, roses, hollyhocks, gladiolus, flowering shrubs, two wisteria plants that cover their pergola, and a wide variety of annuals and perennials. They have turned their intimate garden into an oasis of color, shape, and texture.

This is an old cart they kept from their farm, and now use it as a planter. The lady of the house loves the color blue, and one day she had an urge to paint something. The cart was the perfect candidate.

The garden looks so nice! I love blue, it’s my favourite colour 🙂 I already imagine myself sitting there, reading a book and having a nice cup of coffee 🙂 I keep imagining these things as it’s raining cats and dogs in London 🙂

It sure is pretty next door…and so convenient to visit! It’s raining here too and then we are expecting a heat wave for the rest of the week. 90 degrees and very humid. Yucky.

Isn’t it the coolest thing?! I want one LOL. She also painted the door (blue) to their deck and has a planter hanging on it. I’ll get a shot when the flowers fill in more.

Gee thanks Jane, they must have had some following. She told us at times there were 30+ people out in the fields all picking flowers. I wish I knew about the farm before they retired…I bet it was a beautiful sight. I’m glad we have them as neighbors…they keep us laughing…constantly!

What a super use for that cart! Well done!

Isn’t it the coolest?! I’ll have to ask them how old the cart is…I figure turn of the century judging by the wheels. I want one !

Thanks Fergie, I’m glad they have it positioned in their yard so we can see it from our deck! The man of the house has made several bird houses that are quite attractive and he has placed them throughout the gardens. I need to photograph them!

The blue of the cart really sets off the pinks, yellows, and whites of the flowers. How nice to have such beautiful photographic subjects right next door!

I know…isn’t it great! I tell P that every time I see her. There are more plants coming into flower so I need to head on over there…it’s just so far to travel though…

Love the color of the cart and the contrast it provides among the many colors of the flowers. This is a beautiful image!

Thanks MD, once these monsoons we have been getting move away I’ll head back over to get some more flower shots. They have neat planters with all kinds of things growing!
