INSPIRATION: Final Countdown Until Spring
One day last week I visited the Art Museum and Planetarium in our nearby city. They are selling our Gardenscape book in the museum gift shop, and I stopped by to take care of some business. After I finished my visit with the folks in the gift shop, I took a quick walk around the museum grounds.
There are walking paths along a stream, gardens and numerous sculptures within an arboretum. Since I had a few other book promotion stops to make, I was not able to spend a lot of time. But I did stay long enough to get some shots of early spring bulbs.
These crocuses were blooming in a long, raised stone bed along with groupings of daffodils of assorted sizes. I am glad I took the time to photograph these small spring flowers, because I revisited the garden a few days later and they were finished blooming until next spring.

I’ve been logging in the miles promoting so we’ll see what happens! The planter that these were in is at least 50 feet long and it is filled with all sorts of spring bulbs that will open at different times!
Beautiful! I love crocuses but they don’t grow well in our wet garden. These are spectacular. I hope that your book is doing well!
Yes this was a pretty little grouping…along with many others! We have several places that are carrying the book…just have to get the word out!
Oh these are absolutely beautiful!
One end of the planter was filled with them along with daffodils. The tulips will be next to bloom!

Thanks Meanderer, this grouping was the largest that I could easily photograph…It probably covered about two square feet!

They’re so fleeting, aren’t they, the little crocuses? But surprisingly hardy – I remember seeing some blooming through snow on my first visit to Maine. It seemed like magic!
It is amazing how hardy those little flowers are. I remember as a child my Mom planting them through out the yard to add batch of color in the spring. It was like magic!

By the way, crocuses….in central Indiana I saw crocuses in full bloom on JANUARY 31. The only thing more remarkable than that was that BEES were pollinating the flowers that day. Yes, bees in January. Never seen anything like it.
Thanks Kerry, Wow in January?? Holy smokes that’s way early! And bees too! I guess the time clock for nature has been moved ahead this year. It’s quite a bit different than last year…the earth does go through cycles and I guess this is one of them!

Nice photo David, I have some of those in my yard too. However this morning they are under 8 inches of fresh snow. Winter is still holding on around here. Thanks for the warm outlook.

Thanks Gerry, jeez more snow! Outside of the fluke storm we had in October we only got enough snow to just barely cover the ground. There was no need to do any shoveling this year…in fact we used a broom to sweep off the deck! Things are bound to warm up soon for you guys!!!

Thank you Mufidah, I have this thing for flowers…guess it’s because when we were kids, my Mom let us plant a portion of her garden with anything we wanted. That probably when it all started!
Love the crocuses. I love the fresh colors of spring especially after the drab colors of winter.

wonderfully delightful and crisp … it looks so balanced and the colors are just right…the right amount of yellow and whites to the otherwise blues…the dark green counterbalances…there is something very right about this composition – I think this one would rank up with your best works David !
Hey thanks Abu, these crocuses were in a raised stone planter/wall that is about 70 feet long and it was filled with all kinds of early spring bulbs. It was beautiful!
